Jupiter’s Chisel studio

Welcome to Jupiter’s Chisel Studio

Bold lines. Strong stories. Every piece starts as a hand-carved linocut, printed with care on paper or textiles. Here you’ll find work that moves between North and South-from contemporary reflections to ancestral echoes.

About

Jupiter is a Mozambican-born artist based in Denmark whose work is deeply rooted in Makonde heritage and the wider traditions of the Black Arts Movement. Drawing inspiration from the chisel craft of Makonde sculptors and historic African masks, Jupiter’s linoleum prints are carved with precision and imbued with layered narratives. This practice reimagines traditional forms, making them newly accessible through a contemporary lens."

Artistic Philosophy and Practice
For Jupiter, repatriation and reparation begin in the imagination. The chisel is both a tool and a philosophy, echoing Makonde traditions where carving is an act of memory, reclamation, and renewal. Each cut into the linoleum block becomes a gesture toward returning what was displaced reassembling forms, histories, and spirits into the present.
